FAO - UN's Organization for food and agricultureFAO has "For a world without hunger" as their slogan. Farm animal genetic resources (AnGR) were a theme for the first time in Stockholm 1972. FAO and animal genetic resourcesUNs environmental conference in Stockholm 1972, gave recommendations on conservation of genetic material. FAO hosted in 1980 a world conference on gene bank issues for farm animals, with additional recommendations as a result. FAO developed their global strategy for AnGR in 1993 FAO s process for identifying the state of the worlds farm animal genetic resources started in 2001, and was finished in 2005. In total 169 countries sent their reports to the FAO. FAOs State of the World (in brief) was presented i 2007at The International Technical Conference for AnGR for food and agriculture in Interlaken, Switzerland. At the same conference The Global plan of Action (GPA) for AnGR was adopted by 109 countries. The participating countries also adopted the Interlaken Declaration (also printed in the GPA).
