Regeneration challengesNordGen Forest’s thematic day â€Regeneration – the foundation of forests†took place at Gardermoen, Norway, 22 March 2011.
A successful regeneration is fundamental for high carbon sequestration and wood production. However, new challenges keep emerging. The thematic day addressed some of these. Among the topics discussed were knowledge and use of seeds from seed orchards, and differences in seed properties depending on seed year. Jonas Bergquist from the Swedish Forest Agency showed us that there are some common problems in Sweden and Norway concerning pine regeneration, for instance when it comes to moose browsing. Forest damages in spruce, lammas shoots and pine weevils were discussed, and Venche Talgø from Bioforsk shared the news concerning forest and seedling pests. The presentations can be found on this page.
