Seminar on product development based on farm animal breed
Open seminar
30.Sept – 2.Okt. 2009 a
t Maere, in North-Trøndelag, Norway
The Nordic farm animal breeds possess a lot of different traits! Some are important production traits, such as high milk yield or effective meat production. Other traits contribute to good utilization of natural pastures by grazing in otherwise unproductive areas. Some breeds have traits that give particular good cheese quality, tender meat or are simply important for the understanding of our own cultural history. NordGen works to ensure these various qualities in our livestock breeds, for the sake of our history, but also for the present and future agricultural production.
The best way to conserve our landraces and local breeds is by sustainable use through producing profitable products with additional qualities and good stories to tell. How should we meet the practical, economical and political challenges to support such a development?
Local livestock breeds – how can they be attractive to develop production?
NordGen, the County Governor and Maere Agricultural School, in North-Trøndelag, Norway, cooperate to offer such a seminar with a Nordic profile, based on Norwegian and Nordic experience. We focus on practical skills as well as necessary focus from authorities as well as politicians. Read more here about NordGens programme
