NordGen Farm Animals has assisted FAO with the new FAO Guidelines “Innovations in cryoconservation of animal genetic resources”. During the year, a series of ten webinars based on the chapters in the draft FAO Guidelines will be arranged by FAO in collaboration with NordGen Farm Animals.

On this website, the recorded webinars will be available. The first webinar (held on May 18th) was titled “Building a gene bank strategy”. This webinar addressed section 1 and was presented by the lead authors, Michele Tixier-Boichard, Sipke Hiemstra and Harvey Blackburn.

The eight webinar (held on December 12th) addressed section 6 in the guidelines (titled “Collection and cryopreservation of germ plasm and tissues”) and was presented by Jon Oatley (Washington State University) and Phil Purdy (National Animal Germplasm Program, USDA-ARS) from the United States and Kriszti Liptói (Institute for Small AnimaI Research and Co-ordination Centre for Gene Conservation) from Hungary.

The webinar included the following speakers: Paul Boettcher (FAO), Michèle Boichard (France), Badr Benjelloun (Morocco), Lilian Vilamoor (Philippines – recording), Samuel Paiva (Brazil) and Harvey Blackburn (USA).
