Poultry genetic resources

Hvam Agricultural College in Norway maintains a live genebank of Norwegian poultry lines. It is the aim of the genebank to extend to a Nordic genebank. The project aims to increase the efficiency of the management of the poultry genebank, as well as improving the understanding of the level of genetic diversity and value of the lines at Hvam.
A database for pedigree recording has been established and currently an interface for day-to-day use in the management of the genebank is being developed. Moreover, genetic characterisation of a subset of lines from Hvam with a high-density SNP chip is in progress.
The project is in part funded by the Norwegian Genetic Resource Center.
