The molecular laboratory at the Nordic Genetic Resource Center applies DNA analyses in the daily work of conservation and characterization of plant genetic resources.
Molecular biology for gene bank applications needs specific adaptations and must be developed for these purposes. DNA marker analyses are used in order to find duplicates, evaluate conservation methods and population diversity, and for research based projects. We work closely together with the different plant experts and take part in planning and coordination of molecular projects as well as laboratory work and data analysis.
Currently there are a number of projects carried out at the laboratory in collaboration with national programs for plant genetic diversity, universities and commercial partners.
