Recently developed genomic tools offer new opportunities for the conservation and utilisation of animal genetic diversity.

A newly published book Genomic management of animal genetic diversity (ed. Kor Oldenbroek) describes the use of genomic technology to define breeds, to measure diversity and to assess important features in the history of breeds affecting the present genetic diversity. The book outlines both in vivo and in vitro management of genetic diversity. The book is an add-on to an earlier published book Utilisation and conservation of farm animal genetic resources (ed. Kor Oldenbroek) and is intended both for MSc and PhD students and scientists working with small populations in animal breeding and in conservation programmes for rare breeds.

Information about the book can be found on the book’s web page

NordGen provided funding for the book in collaboration with the European Regional Focal Point for Farm Animal Genetic Resources (ERFP) and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs.
