PPP pre-breeding

The Nordic Council of Ministers (NMR) has decided to set up a Public Private Partnership (PPP) for Pre-breeding in 2011. The purpose of the PPP is to support the development of Nordic plant breeding satisfying the long-term needs of the agricultural and horticultural industries, specifically regarding adaptation to climate change; targets for environmental policies; and demands from consumers, markets, etc.

Pre-breeding for Future Challenges in Nordic Apples

Apple production has a long history in the Nordic countries, and much support among consumers and home gardeners. The Nordic apple project will produce and disseminate knowledge concerning levels of susceptibility against fruit tree canker and storage diseases in apple cultivars of potential interest for plant breeding and cultivar development in the Nordic countries. The work will be carried out mainly in Norway and Sweden, but including also some cultivars from Finland.
